My Sunday Photo

This is one of my favourite photos from our holiday so far.  We were at The Butterfly Farm in St. Maarten and the kids were all in awe of the beautiful butterflies, caterpillars and cocoons everywhere.  It was amazing how the place had a calming effect on all of them.  We could have spent the whole day there - but the beach beckoned!

Some photos, some fun, some sun

After a very early start with very excited children we made our way to the airport to catch our flight to Antigua!

Having been here for a few days we are loving our daily routine of beach, beach and more beach.  The kids are in their element and not even the 4am jet-lagged wake ups could ruin it. Swimming in the sea and playing in the sand never gets old.

'Tis the Season for a Good Old Sing-Song

Christmas carols have been around forever - literally - and when I think of Christmas pop songs, other than Band Aid's classic, all that comes to mind is a bleached blond George Michael dancing around the snow-covered Alps (and Mariah of course, we could never forget her).  And then there's Bublé and Rod Stewart, with their cracking versions of old classics, but otherwise, there really hasn't been anything new that's come along - or that's noteworthy anyway.

Are Celebrity Mummy's just like us?

Sienna Miller will grace the cover of January US Vogue, just to make us all feel better about ourselves after an over-indulgent Christmas...yay.

But the shoot, although glamorous and boho-chic as one would expect, has a touch of Mummyhood about it. The spread also features her equally stunning 2 year-old daughter Marlowe and touches on her life as a Mummy. She talks about how normal her family life really is - dog walking and baby sick comes with the territory - and how, when Marlowe was born, she realised what had been missing.  Sounds very familiar to most, if not all Mama's out there.

Take a look at this tongue in cheek video from Vogue in which Sienna shows us just how 'normal' she is. It's great to see a celebrity poking fun at herself and even funnier to see little glimpses of ourselves in this satire - battle with the brownie, anyone?!

So, what do you think? Are celebrity mummy's just like us?

Great expectations?

I vaguely remember being 6 years old.  I have some memories that I know are truly mine and others that may have been padded out by nostalgic stories of the good ol' days.  Either way I remember being happy. A playful, carefree childhood growing up in the Caribbean running around and swimming in the sea. Idyllic really. But whether I was on the beach in the Caribbean or not, all that would have mattered to me was that I was happy and secure.

Well heeled

'Tis the season to dress up and be merry. I love a good party and the festive season gives us all a great excuse to really go to town if we want to.

Having recently flown round the shops (I'm now an expert at condensing a successful shopping trip into the few precious hours I have child-free) I felt rather like a magpie with all the glittery, sparkly, mini frocks on display. The choices for party dresses are endless with sequins literally everywhere - funny how I wouldn't even consider this option in July. But one thing that has really disappointed me is the selection of dressy heels on offer.

Warming Broccoli and Pear Soup

When the weather turns chilly and you can't feel your fingers or toes (even when you're inside the house standing next to the radiator) nothing beats a good old bowl of soup. It's a bit like tea - warming and comforting.

Crying is okay here

I debated whether or not to write this down. People say writing things down can be therapeutic, healing and freeing. Maybe it will be. As I write this I'm still undecided as to whether I will actually post it. I am starting to feel I am coming out the other side of it so why would I want to bring all those feelings back to the surface?

Ice skating and cupcakes

Our children have never been ice skating before.  We figured at 6 and 4 it's a pretty good time to give it a go.

I've always loved driving past the Natural History Museum and seeing the ice rink and huge Christmas tree all lit up.  It's become quite the regular Christmas attraction in London. With a back drop of the museum and a beautiful carousel added to the mix it's a winner for kids and grown-ups alike.

All I want for Christmas

This year, hubby and I have decided not to get each other a present as our approaching Caribbean holiday is more than enough for us, and without sounding clichéd, we just want to have a happy and healthy Christmas with our family.

But..... a girl likes to be prepared for any eventuality and organisation and communication is essential to a happy and successful life, right? So whether it's for Christmas, a Birthday or just to say I love you, here are a few things I wouldn't say no to this month, or any other month of the year.

A Sunny Sunday

There really is nothing quite like a crisp, sunny winter's day. We have been amazingly lucky with the weather recently and today was no exception.

We rounded up the kids on Sunday morning after being up since the crack of dawn and ventured out to one of our favourite places in Twickenham, Marble Hill Park.  A beautiful park over-looking the Thames with a lovely little playground and many hungry ducks in need of feeding!
