A Sunny Sunday

There really is nothing quite like a crisp, sunny winter's day. We have been amazingly lucky with the weather recently and today was no exception.

We rounded up the kids on Sunday morning after being up since the crack of dawn and ventured out to one of our favourite places in Twickenham, Marble Hill Park.  A beautiful park over-looking the Thames with a lovely little playground and many hungry ducks in need of feeding!

We were first introduced to this park by very good friends of ours earlier this year and simply can't get enough of it. A play in the playground, a stroll along the river and a loaf of old bread later, the kids, ducks and birds are more than happy.

It's amazing how children really don't need lots of glitter and gold to entertain them - a simple run around and exploration is enough to feed their imagination and keep them happy.

Little M was loving all the beautiful golden leaves, we had a competition to see who could find the largest and I think he won by a mile!

What I really love about this park is how quiet it is. There are a few dog walkers, cyclists and families like us but it's nothing like being in a central London park. There is a lot of freedom to do your own thing and let the kids just be kids.

If you're feeling full of energy, there is also a little ferry that takes you across the river to Ham House, part of The National Trust. With beautiful grounds to explore, activities for kids and a lovely cafe with kitchen gardens, you could really make a day of it.

Having jumped off benches, examined rather large mushrooms, collected (and rolled around in) leaves it was time to feed some hungry tummies.  Not too far away is a lovely pub called The Aleksander specialising in delicious wood-fired pizzas and amazing roasts as well as being very kid-friendly (always a bonus).  Another one of our favourite places to go as a family or with friends, they never disappoint.  I will write about it soon as the garlic pizza bread deserves a post dedicated to it!

With full tummies, full imaginations and very sleepy heads we made our way back home, happy with where the day took us.

These are the days I love.  No major plans, just seeing where the day goes and spending some quality time together.  Isn't that what it's all about?

  2. A lovely way to spend a day together and a park I've not heard of despite working very close to Richmond and Bushy Park once which must be close by. Your children look like they are having a lovely time enjoying the simple pleasures of nature. Please do link up with me for Country Kids, this post is perfect.
